XL Airways is a British airline forming part of the XL Leisure Group, the UK’s fifth largest holiday company. The airline provides scheduled services to European, African, Caribbean and North American destinations from hubs located at London Gatwick, Manchester and Glasgow airports.
The airline began life under the name Sabre Airways, establishing itself in 1994 and beginning operations at the end of that same year. It was November 2000 when the name was changed to Excel following the purchase by Libra Holidays Group of a majority stake in the company. In January 2005 the name was changed again, this time to XL.com, its current title. Re-branding subsequently occurred across the company’s operations.
From UK airports including Birmingham, Bristol, Belfast International, Cardiff, East Midlands, Humberside, London Stansted, Newcastle and Nottingham the airline maintains connections with major French, Spanish, Italian, Greek, Turkish, Maltese and Portuguese cities. Antigua, Barbados and Trinidad & Tobago in the Caribbean are also connected, as is Orlando Sanford Airport in the USA.
Passengers travelling on flights with a code ending in the letter V will not be provided with complimentary food or refreshments but will have the option to purchase snacks and beverages from cabin crew staff once the plane has taken off. On flights whose code has no ‘V’ at the end, meals and drinks are provided as part of the ticket price.
On medium and long haul flights, entertainment is provided, with TV screens showing up to date Hollywood movie releases as well as popular television shows. There are also eight audio channels available offering a variety of musical styles as well as comedy and material for children.
Flights to all destinations can be booked on the XL.com website with safe and secure payment available via credit card. Once e-booking is complete, customers are able to manage all aspects of their reservation via the site, with facilities for making changes included.
